Editorial Reviews:

Discover the secrets of written persuasion!

"The principles of hypnosis, when applied to copywriting, add a new spin to selling. Joe Vitale has taken hypnotic words to set the perfect sales environment and then shows us how to use those words to motivate a prospect to take the action you want. This is truly a new and effective approach to copywriting, which I strongly recommend you learn. It's pure genius."
-Joseph Sugarman, author of Triggers

"I've read countless book on persuasion, but none come close to this one in showing you exactly how to put your readers into a buying trance that makes whatever you are offering them irresistible."
-David Garfinkel, author of Advertising Headlines That Make You Rich

"I am a huge fan of Vitale and his books, and Hypnotic Writing (first published more than twenty years ago), is my absolute favorite. Updated with additional text and fresh examples, especially from e-mail writing, Joe's specialty, Hypnotic Writing is the most important book on copywriting (yes, that's really what it is about) to be published in this century. Read it. It will make you a better copywriter, period."
-Bob Bly, copywriter and author of The Copywriter's Handbook

"I couldn't put this book down. It's eye opening and filled with genuinely new stuff about writing and persuading better. And it communicates it brilliantly and teaches it brilliantly-exemplifying the techniques by the writing of the book itself as you go along."
-David Deutsch, author of Think Inside the Box, www.thinkinginside.com

"Hypnotic Writing is packed with so much great information it's hard to know where to start. The insights, strategies, and tactics in the book are easy to apply yet deliver one heck of a punch. And in case there's any question how to apply them, the before-and-after case studies drive the points home like nothing else can. Hypnotic Writing is not just about hypnotic writing. It is hypnotic writing. On the count of three, you're going to love it. Just watch and see."
-Blair Warren, author of The Forbidden Keys to Persuasion

Customer Reviews:

Learn this book's secrets Jul 10, 2010

As with other reviewers, I found this book did have excessive repetition. In addition, it does advocate some very 1980's style aggressive marketing tactics that cause consumers to instantly raise their guard. However, it is a fast, compelling read. It does have many timeless nuggets that will improve your written and verbal communications.

Below is a summary of what I got out of the book. If you find this summary valuable, then I do encourage you to purchase the book if for no other reason than to reward the original author for their creative effort:

I. Plan
- State one specific objective that you are trying to achieve with your writing
- Determine the benefits (end results) that are important to your audience

II. Write
- Let go of perfection and just write, allowing the words to flow... you will edit later
- Write in a conversational tone and let your personality through; a good practice is to write as you would in a personal letter to someone you love
- Anticipate and answer objections as your reader would raise them
- Use words that paint a vivid mental picture or story and stimulate positive emotion (wonder, imagine, reveal, story, discover, rivet, inspire, picture)
- Use clear language: simple, active words in short sentences
- Write for your reader's ego
- Use repetition
- Engage people with questions that stimulate curiosity (ex: Why?)

III. Edit
- Take a break so that you can edit with a clear mind
- Make the language more clear (again, simple active words in short sentences)
- Make the language more sensory and riveting
- Ruthlessly delete everything that does not serve your objective
- Finish what you start as best as you can and then release (perfection is not the goal)

zzzz.... May 27, 2010

With all the rave reviews for this book, I was anxious to see how I could use it to help increase my own success in writing. The author even claims that this book is an example of hypnotic writing.

It took me a few days just to get through the first few pages. I found I could not focus, my eyes were tired and I was wanting to sleep.

I have read many books that actually make you forget the world around you because you are so engrossed in the book. This is the complete opposite.

If the author wants to use this book as proof, then I cannot agree with him. This book put me to sleep and it was completely useless in the way the author claims it is helpful.

I am not sure how so many people thought this was a great book. I think it is a waste of time and money. I will stick with just using my favorite authors' works as examples of true hypnotic writing!

Hypnotic writing Is A Great Read May 14, 2010

Hypnotic Writing is a great read. Once again, Joe Vitale takes a subject and writes in way to capture and hold one's attention. The copy writing tips in Hypnotic Writing can be used anywhere. From direct mail letters to a website or even in a newspaper ad.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in pyschology, sales, advertising and of course for those who are interested in making money through the written word!

Not a bad additional May 03, 2010

I'm going to have to say that if you're looking to the end-all answers, you may not find them in this book. Joe Vitale does his thing - which is to promote his other products. However, if you're looking for ways to make your own writing more appealing (and yes more "hypnotic" of sorts), then this is a good reference. Just don't get this book thinking you will find the ultimate answers. Joe is somewhat ambiguous in some of the chapters with "you'll know the secret if you keep reading" ...then never really clearly gives you the straight answer. But overall, I'd say this book has a few really good gems of ways to improve your writing drastically to keep your readers more involved and liking what you write (which can help you to profit or get more readership). I gave it 3 stars, as it's adequate but not what I would consider outstanding.

Gets you thinking Oct 26, 2009

This book reminded me that my writing can be much more exciting. I want my writing to create a strong picture in their mind when I describe things. Although this type of language can be overused in sales pitches and long salesy descriptions of products, I still believe this book is well worth reading for anyone who wants to punch up the energy in their writing. I won't be memorizing this book or anything but it was worth the read.
